Lot 341 - united states draped bust cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #84

1798 S-154 R4+ Large 8, Style I Hair PCGS Genuine XF Details Smoothed. Lightly cleaned and retoned a rather glossy olive and dark steel brown with lighter reddish brown toning in some of the protected areas on the reverse. Nothing about this cent suggests it was "Smoothed" so I suspect PCGS meant to say "Cleaning." No marks or other defects, and this cent offers nice eye appeal. The date is bold and the legends are complete. LDS, Breen state III, with obvious swelling on the reverse and a radial die crack from the rim to the upper edge of the bust. Our grade is VF20 net F15. The "1st Hair Style" feature is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $500-UP.

1796 S-114 R5- Draped Bust Fair-2. Glossy steel and light chocolate brown. Possibly recolored but the surfaces are perfectly smooth and choice for the grade, just heavily worn. The only mark is a tiny rim nick over the E in STATES. The 6 is clear while the 179 is only partially visible but still easily readable. No more than half the legend on the reverse remains visible. EDS, Breen state I. The die crack from the right top of the second T in STATES to the dentils is clear.
Estimated Value $200-UP.

1796 S-100 R5 Draped Bust AG3. Slightly sharper on the lower half of the obverse and upper half of the reverse where the designs were more strongly impressed into the planchet (thanks to the die faces being out of perfect horizontal alignment). The date is complete and clear. The only marks are faint hairline scratches that cover both sides, but these are not distracting and the eye appeal is quite nice for the grade. Mostly glossy dark chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning covering the devices. The two-tone contrast accents the designs and enhances the eye appeal on this well-worn cent. EDS, Breen state I, before any clashmarks.
Estimated Value $150-UP.
