To reverse an arrival dated 2 January. A fine and scarce franking. Only five examples of the 5 d. dull green in combination with non-contemporary stamps are recorded.

Exhibition page comprising two covers sent to Copenhagen Denmark, both franked with the same tri-colour combination of 1856 6 d. lilac, 1857 1 d. red and 1862 4 d. red, plate 3. One sent 27 June 1862 from London, the other 25 August 1862 from Newcastle. Some stains and imperfections, however scarce duo. Just five mixed frankings with this combination of stamps paying postage to Denmark are recorded.

1857: 1 d. red, Die II, perf. 14, lettered TE, used on small envelope, London to Worcester, dated 14 January 1858, tied by a fine strike of the Pearson Hill Experimental second Trial Machine cancel in black (Dubus Type 2), Machine 'A', Code 'M'. To the reverse a Worcester arrival in green-blue (Jan 15). Some soiling to cover. The adhesive has a clipped corner bottom right. Otherwise fine. Rare example; earliest known use of the 'M' Time Code...

1857: 1 d. red, Die II, perf. 14, lettered TA, used on cover, London to Bath, dated 19 January 1858, tied by a fine strike of the Pearson Hill Experimental second Trial Machine cancel in black (Dubus 2), Machine 'A', Code 'A', with offset strike on reverse and an arrival (Jan. 20). Vertical filing crease to very left side well clear of adhesive, otherwise fine example. Rare cancel.

Machine 'B', 1857: 1 d. red, Die II, perf. 14, lettered RL, used on cover, London to Halifax, dated 24 March 1858, tied by a fine strike of the rare Pearson Hill 'Opera Glass' Trial Machine cancel in black (Dubus 3), Code 'B', with offset strike on reverse and an arrival (MR 25). A fine example of this rare cancel. One of ten recorded examples on cover.

1857: 1 d. red, Die II, perf. 14, lettered PA, used on cover, London to Liverpool, dated 20 March 1858, tied by London Inland barred cancel in black. To the reverse the rare Pearson Hill Experimental Trial 'Transit' Machine cancel in black, Machine 'C', Code 'C' (Day Code C), with Liverpool arrival in blue-green alongside (MR 21). Rare; earliest recorded usage and one of two known on cover.
