1884 (April 1): 6 d. dull green, wmk. Crown sideways, perf. 14, used on a mourning cover, London to Melbourne, Australia, dated 29 October 1885, tied by the London EC Hoster Machine cancel, type V (Dubus Type 35), endorsed 'By the first mail steamer / Oct 29th 1885'. To the reverse an arrival cds in black (December 7). Opening tears top not affecting adhesive and some slight soiling. Otherwise fine and scarce. Additionally, comes with eight other examples of the Hoster cancellation on cover or card, including seven Type IV (Dubus Type 33), one of which is to India and one example with Type V, the latter on cover to Sweden. All neatly mounted on exhibition pages informatively written-up. Some imperfections or faults, several fine. Scarce group (9).
