Overprinted "Protectorate" by Townshend 1888: GB ½ d. vermilion, 1 d. on 1 d. lilac & black and 1 s. green & black, used on 1888 cover to Paris, France carried by "Mafeking-Gubulawayo Runner Post", all tied "676" numeral obliterators with "SHOSHONG / BECHUANALAND" despatch cds alongside (Sept 29 - ote inverted date slug error), MAFEKING transit cds also on obverse (Oct 6) with "2½d." credit handstamp in red. Reverse with Cape Town cds (Oct 17), London cds in red (Nov 6) and Paris arrival (Nov 7). Some edge wear but a rare destination for this period. Cert. BPA (2024).
