Boer War, Prisoner of War Mail 1893: ½ d. green wmk., Crown CA, 14½ mm. surcharge, and 1894 2 d. yellow, used on 1902 cover from a prisoner at Deadwood Camp to Vevey, Switzerland tied by "ST. HELENA" cds (Feb 27) in black. Triangular "PASSED BY CENSOR / DEADWOOD" at left in violet countersigned "EW" by E. Walton in manuscript. Reverse with "Plymouth / Ship Letter" cds (March 22) and Vevey arrival cds. A fine cover.
Note: The sender and prisoner, Maurice Le Gall, from Parys, Orange Free State, was captured by the British at Mafeking on May 15, 1900 - the day before the siege ended.
